留学生在essay创作全过程中常常会采用代词，大家都了解代词是用于替代前文出现过的专有名词。可是代词的应用看起来简易实际上很繁杂，留学生要怎样才能保证恰当应用呢?下边就跟小编一起来瞧瞧吧!

最先看第一个难题:
语句or短语，可以用代词代指吗?
在北美地区，是不能的。这也是GMAT英语的语法的常见英语的语法点。
“A pronoun must always refer to a single,clear,unmistake Noun.”
(1)代词代指的是单独，清楚，准确无误的专有名词。
因此，
Tom was always unprepared for class.It made his teacher increasingly mad.
Tom was always unprepared for class.This made his teacher increasingly mad.
Tom was always unprepared for class,which made his teacher increasingly mad.
这儿的it.this,乃至which全是不正确的。由于她们都被用于代指一个用全部语句表述的见解(an idea expressed in an entire sentence or statement),这违反了代词务必代指一个确立的专有名词的标准。
如何修改了?(2)
1.用专有名词替代代词replace it with a noun:
Tom was always unprepared for class,and his constant unpreparedness drove his teacher crazy.
2.在this后边加一个专有名词：
Tom was always unprepared for class,and this habit drove his teacher crazy.
3.合拼成一个语句，降低代词：
Tom’s constant unpreparedness made his teacher increasingly mad.
4.在which前面一个专有名词：
Tom was always unprepared for class,a habit which drove his teacher crazy.

Meg telephoned,
Meg telephoned yesterday,or
Meg had not attended the meeting the day before
因此，还是代指不清。
如何修改了?
1.用专有名词替代代词：
Meg telephoned Howard…before.Meg’s absence made…
or:
Meg telephoned Howard…before.Meg’s late call made…
2.合拼语句，降低代词：
Because Meg telephoned Howard yesterday to explain why she had not attended the meeting the day before,Howard became very angry.
or:
Meg’s telephone call yesterday to explain why she had not attended the meeting the day before made Howard very angry.
